Another interview, another state. Let’s take this flight to Dallas, Texas to sit down with rapper TekForce and talk about this hip-hop culture that we love. Check out TekForce‘s single « Move » featuring T Wrex below :

Who is your all time favorite DJ ?

My favorite all time DJ is Kid Capri, as that dude KNOWS how to start a party or any situation with the right tone. He’s the one I think DJ’s should check out when they are learning the ropes and how to read the crowd.

The name of your upcoming album is « Child Of The 80s » what’s the concept of the project ?

Child Of The 80’s is a project that I’ve wanted to do for quite some time. I wanted to have an album that in part talked about the era that I grew up in musically, and have that reflected in the project. I produced 80% of this album, so it’s been great flexing that producer muscle to make the tracks reflect what I have in my head. It’s been HELLA fun just coming up with the concepts, and knowing I have to provide the backdrop to them.

Who are your top 3 MCs right now ?

Right now my top 3 emcees are Oddisee, JonWayne, and my dude T-Wrex. These emcees just keep raising the bar on content and what a song SHOULD be to me. Talking about real topics and staying true to themselves. I think that’s always important, because people KNOW when you’re not being yourself on the mic.

You’re a serious performer and did your thing on many stages, what’s your most memorable stage souvenir ?

I was performing at a convention and after the performance, a guy walks up to me and gives me a TRON flash drive and beaded logo he made of TRON. He knew it was my favorite movie and drove from Houston to Dallas to see my show. Told me how my music helped him in some hard times in my life and it meant A LOT.

Where do you see the future of hip-hop in 5 years ?

I believe the culture is seeing a shift back to lyrics and the boom bap beats. For the last several years it’s been about flash, which is PART of hiphop, but some of that content doesn’t have heart and soul. There is simply too much going on in this world not to talk about and things are cycling back around to that movement.

What can you tell us about Light Cycle Entertainment ?

Light Cycle Ent, is a company I started several years ago. I wanted a brand that reflected people like me, who didn’t necessarily fit with the rest of the world. That may have grown up loving video games, anime, or didn’t have a lot of friends, but had a TRUE love of art and music. My goal is to not only have music be out, but others in the future that want to join that movement.

If you could stay a weekend in the studio to get a EP done with two producers, who would you pick ?

Pharrell and J Dilla, because I believe they both helped me start producing back in the day wit their style and approaches to music. I would say Timbaland would be in that role too, because keys, drums, just the overall musical landscape became really important to me after hearing all of their work.

If you had 3 words to define your music, what would you say ?

Honest, Real, and Impactful.

What’s next for you ? What are you working on right now ?

Well after I finish this project, I’m going to start working on my follow up to my 2016 album, Server Crash pt.1. It’s LONG overdue for a sequel, and I believe with what’s going on in the world, I have MORE than enough content to make a solid project.
